WIN – PIHAT – 8AO

WIN-PIHAT-8AO: Product Overview

The WIN-PIHAT-8AO by Augmatic Technologies is an 8-channel analog output expansion board designed for Raspberry Pi 4 and CM4. It enables precise 0–10V signal generation, allowing users to control industrial actuators like Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and proportional valves directly from their Raspberry Pi.

Key Features & Specifications

  • High-Precision Output: Supports selectable 12-bit or 16-bit DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) resolution.

  • 8 Channels: Scalable architecture with up to 8 independent single-ended voltage outputs.

  • Voltage Range: Fixed 0–10V DC, perfect for standard industrial control interfaces.

  • Load Capacity: Provides ~15 mA continuous current (short-circuit protection up to 35 mA).

  • Industrial Durability: Operates on 12/24V DC input; temperature rated for 0°C to 60°C.

  • Safety: Includes short-circuit protection to ground for each channel.

How It Works

The board translates digital commands from the Raspberry Pi into physical voltages using the SPI communication bus:

  1. Software Command: The user defines a digital value (12-bit or 16-bit).

  2. SPI Transfer: The Raspberry Pi sends this value to the onboard DAC IC (TCP112S8 or TCP116S8).

  3. Analog Drive: The DAC converts the data into a proportional 0–10V signal at the terminal blocks.

Connectivity & Pin Mapping

The module communicates via the SPI bus on the Raspberry Pi 40-pin header:

Signal Name Pi GPIO Header Pin Description
MOSI GPIO 10 19 SPI Data Output
MISO GPIO 09 21 SPI Data Input
SCLK GPIO 11 23 SPI Clock
CE0 / CE1 GPIO 08/07 24 / 26 Chip Select lines
